Rat Bottles For Glass Rats – A Simple and Effective Solution For Controlling Rodent Water Bacteria
Looking for a convenient, safe and economical rodent water bottle for glass tanks? There are many options to choose from. You can also make your own. A rodent water bottle for glass tank will not only be a handy tool, but it can be an educational tool as well. Here are some tips for making your own.
First, remember that water bottles should be leak proof. Leakage of any sort is hazardous to both the fish and the rodent.
Some manufacturers make their water bottles with large airways to allow for easy air flow. Others use small ports, so that the air cannot escape, but still leak. The goal of this is to make sure that they do not spill poison or other harmful chemicals onto the glass tank.
Second, when you’re making your own, you’ll want to choose one of several different types of mesh tops for the water bottle.
The most effective ones are made from silicone. Not only are they lightweight and easily shaped, they also give the glass container a tighter seal so that any escaping air or poison gas does not get trapped inside. Also, mesh tops have smaller holes at the top to allow for easy access to the water in the bottle.
Next, get some cork tiles and grid paper.
You will need to mark the top of the water bottle with “ROOM”. This should be a clear, tight line to resemble a cage with the rats climbing up and down on the grid paper. Draw a racetrack-like pattern on the cork tiles, and then lightly scotch tape the edges. The purpose of this tape is to protect the rats’ feet from getting hurt while they are climbing.
Now you’re ready to make a glass tank for the water contained inside the plastic bottle.
Place the grid paper on the inside of the bottle, and then wrap some strong rope around the tube and the top of the glass. Once this is in place, put the glass on the top of the tube and gently tape it down. The rodents will not be able to climb over the glass, but you can still put a few water bottles inside the cage so that you have water available for them.
Now you can put the mesh bottle onto the grid paper and secure it in place.
For the final touch, buy some more grid paper and tape it to the inside of the water bottle. Then put the lid back on the plastic water bottle and tape it down. The rodents will now have an endless supply of water to drink. And if you let them out of their cage once in a while, they might even drink some of that water!
But how do you keep your glass bottle for glass rats out of the cage?
If you use one of the commercially available bottle guards, the only thing that will remain in the cage besides the water bottle is the mesh filter. Therefore, there is no easy way to tell whether or not the rodents are getting their water supply. You will also not be able to tell if they are trying to escape. They will simply walk right through it. However, if you use one of these commercially available bottle guards, you will be able to keep the water inside the bottle while keeping the rodents out.
You do, however, have to change the water every so often.
Rats and other rodents are known for their thirst. You may have to run out to the supply sink a couple of times during the day. This is easily overcome. Change the water bottle as needed and soon your pet rodents will have access to plenty of clean water. That’s all there is to keeping a water bottle for glass rats.
